Retro Suplex is where I write up my English patches for retro wrestling games, and the challenging reverse engineering behind them: finding the text, getting English to fit in fonts and menus that never expected it, and building patches that don’t break the game.

Why wrestling games

Japanese pro wrestling games from the 90s and 2000s are deep, strange, and typically never left Japan. They have huge rosters, career modes, edit-a-wrestler systems, and menus full of text few could read. I obsessively played Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium, created hundreds of wrestlers, won every title. That wouldn’t have been possible without amazing hackers like Sydra and Phil along with the rest of the Fire Pro Wrestling community.

Now I’m giving back. My goal is to translate as many of the unique and interesting puroresu games as I can. My work will always be free and open source. I want nothing in return except for others to enjoy the games.
